It was Jon’s mom, who was holding the house phone.
“Karyn, Honey,” she said, “I’ve just got off the phone with your mother. Unfortunately she’s got to go away for a few weeks to see to your grandmother, she’s ok, but she’s had a bad accident and needs constant care. She didn’t want to drag you away in the middle of the term so we’ve agreed that you can stay here with us until she comes back. We need to go now so you can collect the things you need from home. Simons just emptying the car now.” she added.
Karyn and Jon exclaimed glances before she nodded and they both headed downstairs where Jon’s dad, Simon Gibson, was by the car.
It took no time at all for the four of them to drive across town to Karyns house where her mom was waiting anxiously. As they got out the car she ran over to Jon’s mom and handed her a set of keys.
“Thank you for doing this on such short notice Laura” she said before turning and giving Karyn a big hug, “I’m sorry to leave you behind sweetie, but you know grandma, she refuses to go into a home. I really need to get going, but I’ll call you later tonight with a full update ok? I shouldn’t be more that two or three weeks.” She said. Karyn nodded and hugged her mom back then went into the house to gather up everything she would need for the next few weeks.
Once the car was loaded they drove back to the Gibsons house and took everything up to Jon’s room.
“Once I’ve got the Rec-room finished I’ll be able to clear all the tools and stuff out of the spare room, until then you’ll have to use Jon’s couch bed I’m afraid” He said to Karyn.
“You can have the bed, the couch is a bit lumpy” Jon whispered, causing Karyn to smile a bit.
“Thank you Mr Gibson,” she replied. Once she was settle Jon’s mom called them down to dinner.
The rest of the evening passed pretty uneventfully, and soon they were both getting ready for bed. Jon pulled out the couch and grabbed a blanket from his closet, pulled on a pair of pyjama bottoms, and removed his t-shirt just as Karyn returned from the bathroom.
“Night Jon-boy” she said as she climbed into his bed in an oversized t-shirt “see you in the morning.”
