"We're here. This is my hideout," Kara said.
I looked around. "It's a cave."
"Yeah. But not just any cave. I think it has something to do with the type of rock. It interferes with the power source of the spheres. They won't come in here because they can't." She grabbed a lantern hanging on the wall and lit it. "Come on."

"How did you avoid being touched for so long?" I asked, as I looked at one of the paintings.
"I never said I wasn't," Kara said.
I turned my head suddenly and looked at her. "Huh? But you're not ..."

"Actually, I am. In fact, I'm one of the ones I told you about."
I stood still, not sure of what to do. The Degenerates were like animals - violent and unpredictable. Kara was definitely not one of them, but one of the other groups she mentioned could be just as bad ... or worse.
"The Feeders are vampires," she began to explain. "The Techheads are cyborgs, the Griffs are human-animal hybrids, and the Femmes are seductive women who used to be men."
"Which one are you?" I asked.
As she removed her cloak and her outerwear, she said ...
