"Hey!" a woman's voice said, cutting through the sphere's humming. "Are you fucking nuts?! Get away from that thing!"
I turned and saw a woman's figure standing on a ridge not too far away. Her long black hair fluttered in the light breeze.
The sphere's humming was now loud enough that I had to press my hands against my ears. I could see the woman screaming some more, but I couldn't hear what she was saying. Seeing this, the woman waved her hands around, gesturing me to come towards her.
Through my hands, I began to hear the humming once more. I wondered if my ears would have been bleeding if hadn't kept them covered.
I started to walk towards the woman. Maybe if I got far enough away from the floating sphere, I wouldn't be inflicted by that sound any more. And the way it was sounding right now, I definitely felt like I was being inflicted.
