"Grandpa?" she asked, stunned.
"Ally. What is it, honey? You look like you've seen a ghost."
"You're ... dead," she said.
"Dead? Ally, why would you say such a thing?"
She turned and looked at the mirror. The image that she saw was the reflection of the room she was in. But she was in the wrong room. Yes, this was the same bedroom, at her grandmother's house. But the wallpaper was different and some of the furniture was in the wrong place. Ally had seen movies where people go from one world to another, and both worlds were almost identical, except for a few differences. Maybe that's what happened. When she touched the mirror, she traveled to another ... well ... another universe. And in this universe, her grandfather didn't die.
"Ally? Where did that mirror come from?" her grandfather asked.
"Uh ... I found it in the attic."
"I haven't seen that old relic in years," he said, approaching it. "I didn't even know I still had it."
"Don't touch it," Ally said.
"Why? Ally, what's gotten you so frightened? It's just a mirror."
"Please," Ally said.
Her grandfather backed down. "Okay," he said, nodding. "But can you please tell me why you're so afraid?"
