Ally walked into her bedroom and dropped on her bed. She missed home, but she liked being there at her grandmother's house. With all the milk and cookies she wanted, who wouldn't?

But she was bored. None of her friends were there. They were all back home.

She picked up one of her stuffed animals, remembering that one of her friends (Susie was her name) had given it to her on her last birthday. Being nine years old, she felt like she was getting too old, although her parents thought otherwise.

At the moment, her grandma was out doing some gardening, so she was alone in the house. And since she didn't have anything else to do, Ally decided to explore the house a little. She barely ever got a chance to do it, since she had only spent one weekend with her grandma every year or so. She just lived too far away.

So without hesitation, she explored. And during her tour of the house, she went up to the attic. She had always been scared to go up there. It was so dark and dusty. But she was big girl now. She could handle it.

After she ascended the creaky wooden stairs, she walked around the attic, looking around for something interesting. There were always old antiques lying around in attics.

And that was when she found the mirror.

It looked like any other mirror, except for the beautifully crafted frame. She picked it up and looked at it. It was big enough to see most of her reflection, but small enough that she could move it by herself.

As she held it in her hands, the glass suddenly shimmered with in odd blue light. Then it was gone. Thinking that it was just the way the sunlight hit the mirror, Ally dismissed it.

She looked around the attic for more treasures, but the only thing she really liked was the mirror. So she brought it back to her room with her.

After setting it on top of her dresser, she looked into it, seeing herself. But there was something wrong. The reflection in the mirror didn't match her room. The wallpaper was different, for one. And second, there was a painting on the wall in the mirror, but not when Ally turned around and looked.

When she turned back towards the mirror, she peered a little closer. She nearly screamed when her reflection grinned at her. She jumped back and watched as her reflection jumped back too.

She slowly moved back towards the mirror and stuck out her hand. Her reflection did the same. And when her finger touched the surface of the mirror, a blue light flashed in her eyes, causing her to shut them.

When she opened them, she saw her reflection moving backwards, even though she wasn't. Then the mirror shimmered blue again, just like it had in the attic. This had nothing to do with the sunlight. Ally knew that now.

She turned around to walk back to her bed, and that's when she noticed the wallpaper. It was just like the kind that she saw in the mirror.

"Oh, there you are, Ally," a voice suddenly said.

She turned and saw her grandfather. But he died two years ago. How could he be there? "Grandpa?" she asked, stunned.
