Karyn was nervous about her first outing in the Gibson game, but also excited. She had been surprised to learnt here was no official mayoral residence in town. She'd imagined it like the governor's mansion, or the White House...She'd looked up Caroline Ellis's social media accounts. No one got into office nowadays without social media presence. She was able to find out that Caroline Ellis was going to be speaking at a fundraiser that evening at the local country club. she also learned that she'd been living in one of the residences at that same country club.
Karyn didn't yet know why Caroline was staying at the country club. One of her donors had offered her the use of it for a few days, after someone, seeing her on the news, had come to her apartment. She hadn't expected to attract that kind of attention, and was in the process of looking for a new place to live, in a more secure building. Richard McMillan, who'd been one of her biggest donors, had offered to help...but she'd pointed out to him that accepting a place to stay to avoid harassment was one thing...but she didn't want to be seen as accepting gifts in exchange for influence.
She had left City Hall early(at least for her but not for normal people) to get ready for this affair, and she'd slipped out of her professional garb to relax for a few minutes, then needed to take a quick shower before donning the formal attire she'd need that evening. It was going to be a busy week for her. She'd won a media coup by getting Olympian Melody Winters to visit town and was planning a photo op with the swimmer later that week. It'd help raise her profile above the regional level.
She had loads of work to do, as she'd finally secured the votes to push through her desired rezoning of downtown. Not only had Richard McMillan been pushing for it, it would bring loads of new economic opportunity. She wasn't going to give him everything he wanted, but certainly when their needs aligned...they could work well together. After tonight, the only other event she had this week was a visit to a local high school to give out a community service award. It felt more like pageant princess work than mayor, but being seen with kids was good for her image.
There was a knock at her door, and she was surprised to see a teenager at her door. Knowing that the country club had security, she was a bit more relaxed. She'd have to be a member or a guest to get in. "Can I help you?"
"I'm not quite sure how to say this," the blonde haired girl in the ratty looking jumper said.
"I'm always interested in listening to the voters of tomorrow, but I'm a bit busy at the moment...I have to get ready for the evening," she said.
"Well, that's just it...you don't," the girl said. "You see, this is going to sound strange...but I picked your name out of a hat...so I get to be you for the next week."
Caroline wondered how these disturbed individuals found her. "Well, it is nice to meet you, Mayor Ellis," she said, very cautiously. "How about we call security and they can escort you back to City Hall?"
"Nice to meet you too," the girl said. "I didn't think it would be that easy...this is my first time. I guess I'd better get ready. Good luck this week...and if you need anything...I guess you can call me...okay?"
"Call you...but...what are you talking about, I'm...Karyn Black....I mean...you're Caroline Ellis and...." Caroline looked confused as her mouth was betraying her.
"Think of it like a little vacation...no one is going to know," the teenager said, gently starting to remove her clothes and offering them to the confused woman.
