When they made it to the building, Charlie wondered how they were going to get in - the lock seemed to require a code and an ID. But his answer was given to him by a blast from Matt's weapon.
"Was that necessary?" Charlie asked.
"No, but it's fun," Matt answered.
"Reckless, more like it. Every guard in the building probably heard that."
"There aren't any guards. I checked."
Charlie's eyebrow rose up. "None? In the entire building?"
"Everything's automated. Now, come on. Let's get what we came for and get out of here."
They walked through a maze of corridors and up two floors until they found "the room". All it took was three blasts from Matt's gun to get through the door. And when they got inside, they saw the device, sitting on a pedestal in the middle of the room, with a spotlight shining down on it, as if it were some sort of a relished object.
Matt walked over to it and picked it up. He had no idea what its function was, but it didn't matter. The objective was to steal the device. And that objective was now complete.
"Okay, let's go," he said.
As they walked towards the exit of the room, however, a steel door slammed down, blocking their way out.
They were trapped.
