A single tear dripped down his eyes, just for a moment. He remembered now, this was the last gift he got from his parents a few months ago after they disappeared oversees on a business trip. He always found missing parents a cliche in science fiction and movie staples, but when he'd heard the news about the boat accident, the missing passengers, and that his own folks wouldn't be coming home, it hit Leonard rather hard for a bit accepting that his parents might never return. He'd started researching and looking for them at first but, as the summer wore on he grew weary and it was too much, with no leads. Someday maybe he's take up the investigation again.
When he got the package in the mail a day before his birthday however, he was both ecstatic and confused. They must have sent it before the sea vessel went missing, it was even dated as such. That made it all the more sad to him knowing his parents gifted this without knowing they wouldn't arrive home to see how their son dealt with it. With that, he sighed and laid back on his bed, holding the rock up to the ceiling.
As nice a gesture as it was, it was merely a toy right? Just some dinky souvenir from overseas, the note must've been a joke. His mother always did have a rather odd sense of humor.
But, what if it was true? He supposed even if it wasn't, there would be no harm in trying it out, in the privacy of his room he'd hardly look too silly. Leonard squeezed the rock and tried to concentrate on a wish, not taking any chances with anything world shattering or dangerous, merely what might confirm it's power as the note said.
