Matt fumbled through his pockets as spare change dropped to the ground around his feet. Jim rolled his eyes and let out a sigh at the sight of his little brother picking up his fallen currency. Matt returned the coins back to his pocket with the exception of a shiny, new quarter that he held up triumphantly.

"Here we go," said Matt. He winded his arm around like a big league pitcher and threw the quarter deep into the well, where it clinked and clanked it's way down to the bottom. Satisfied with his throw, Matt closed his eyes and said aloud his wish. "I wish that I would have a wish granted everyday."

"There," said Jim, after a brief moment of silence. "You've thrown away your money now let's go."

"Don't you believe in wishes being granted, Jim?" Matt walked away from the clearing with the well back to where his brother was.

"No, as a matter of fact, I don't," answered Jim who paused for a brief moment as he continued to hear slight echoes of the coin bouncing off the stone walls of the well's interior. Despite being puzzled by the fact that the coin hadn't hit the bottom yet, Jim continued on with his argument. "Even if I did believe in wishes I would have to say that you've wasted your money."

"Why's that," asked Matt. "If my wish is granted I will have as many wishes as I want."

"Yeah, but your not supposed to tell anyone, dingleberry. Wishes aren't granted if you wish out loud or tell someone your wish. Besides, you should of just wished for infinite wishes so that you wouldn't have to wait 24 hours for the next one to be granted."

"Nuh-uh," retorted Matt. "My teacher says that you ARE supposed to say wishes out loud, maybe that's why no one else get's their wishes granted cuz' they keep it to themselves! Plus, my wish isn't stupid at all! I would simply make my wish when I first get up in the morning and get it over with so that I won't accidently say a bad wish and have it granted."

"Look Matt, this is fun and all but it's getting late and you promised that we could leave the park around lunchtime. So let's get going."

With the debate over, Jim started back along the trail with his little brother in tow. Unbeknownst to both brothers that Matt's quarter had finally hit the water at the bottom of the well causing the blackened stones to glow with an intense white light for a fraction of a second.

Too far away to notice the flash of light, Jim and Matt continued to hike the trail back to the park.
