Adam had heard about these strange items from the mysterious house on a hill… as well as the strange legend that it was a crazy inventor, probably lost to his experiments. Adam was a straight A student who fancied himself a bit of a scientist someday so naturally wanted to see what all these strange things might be. He had short blonde hair and wore glasses. He brought a friend with him, another guy called Barry.
Barry was more the ‘jock’ type with black hair and what most would regard as quite a handsome face. Striking dark eyes and a little bit of facial hair as an older teenager. It was interesting that such a nerd and jock would bond well enough to become friends. Neither really agreed with the whole ‘label’ thing in school, though they did sometimes have to keep their friendship a ‘secret’.
“So, what are you thinking about all this stuff?” Asked Barry as he surveyed the mountain of trash.
Adam picked up a strange looking tube. “Hm… well this looks like a telescope.” He looked up at the sky with it. “Weird… its magnifying more then it should, given its length. Must be some kind of crystal rather then glass. Highly refractive.” He was tempted to unscrew it later to have a look. He was now looking at a husk of metallic equipment. “This looks like some kind of ioniser… but I’ve never seen one configured like that. It looks like he was trying to focus a beam of ions but- that’s not possible without magnetic systems… I don’t quite follow…. Hm…” this stuff was a lot more interesting then he imagined it to be. Whoever did this was either nuts or a genius… clearly mad. He saw a microwave that had been heavily modified to do… something that he couldn’t even guess.
Barry was getting bored. As much as he liked his friend, he could be such a nerd when he got like this. He started walking around the junk until he tripped over something. “Ow- what the heck is this…” He started to dig it up from the Earth.
It looked a lot like a portable slot machine. It had four panels in a straight line, with a simple red lever to the side. The machine looked like it stood on a metallic pole with wheels at the bottom to help carry it around. A strange gambling machine perhaps?
Barry grinned a bit seeing something even he could finally understand. He knew all about slot machines but didn’t see anywhere to put a coin. “Yeah okay let’s see… so you push the button..”
He pressed it- the system seemed to run on cogs so it didn’t need any power. It began to move! He saw various numbers and symbols that made no sense. “Hey Adam! Check this out! It’s a slot machine!”
Adam put down the ‘ion focuser’ and wondered over to the other side. “Huh? Is it working?”
A strange symbol appeared. The light behind it giving an eerie glow. It looked like a strange circle.
Adam examined the machine as it hummed. “Those are Vacuum tubes… hm…”
Suddenly there was a gigantic flash of energy. Barry found his arm- or rather his watch, pulled towards the machine- as did various metallic objects from the junk pile. Adam found the coins and even his house keys were suddenly pulled away leaving the sides of his pockets. “What the heck?”
“Ah- I can’t get off!” Barry cried. “Help!”
Adam quickly reached forward to try and pull him away but the magnetic force was too strong. “Let me get your watch off-“ He tried to undo the clasp but it was also being pulled and way too tight to just slip off.
The magnetic field increased as more junk was being pulled towards them… a new light turned on as the slot machine stopped at another number and another very quickly…
Though as this was going on they were not alone. There was a man patrolling around the area and had seen the two teenagers. He appeared to be a kind of security guard. “Hey- what are you kids doing here-“ Though he was suddenly also pulled into the magnetic force!
The machine suddenly vanished… taking with it the three humans as well as some parts of the junk with them…
