"So, do you want to try more? Or what?" Jim asked.

"Sure, but first maybe we should see if there's ..." He flipped the pages to the front of the book.

"See if there's what?"

"Maybe a translation spell? It's got to be one of the first ones, right?"

"I suppose," Jim said.

Rick ran his finger down the page until he found one that he thought was the one he was looking for. "I don't know much about Latin, but I'm pretty sure 'lingua' means language. You know, like the word 'lingual'."

"Sounds good enough to me."

"Okay, then. Here I go." He bent over the book and said "Convoco lingua intellego."

Jim looked at the book. Nothing changed. It was still written in Latin. Totally unreadable.

"Is opus," Rick said. "Ego can lego is."

"What? I can't understand you," Jim said.

Rick looked confused. Then he said "Ego can non agnosco quis vos es sententia."

"You're speaking Latin, right?" Jim said, finally understanding what was happening. "That spell changed you so that you speak Latin."

Rick shook his head. It was obvious that he couldn't understand English anymore. Yes, he could now read the spells and know what they do, but he couldn't communicate with Jim. This may be a problem if Rick had to interact with people. How was Jim going to explain Rick not understanding English?
