In homeroom, the next morning, Jim sat down next to Rick. "So how was the visit? You definitely going there?"
"Oh yeah. I figured out my dorm, and all that. It's going to be great. What about you? How was your weekend?"
Jim tried to keep a straight face, but failed badly as a huge grin flitted across his face.
Without waiting for a longer response, Rick said, "You dog! I figured you'd get to second base, but I didn't think you'd hit a home run."
"Hey, we can't all be career singles hitters," Jim responded.
Rick gave him a strange look for a second, then resumed his enthusiasm. "You've gotta tell me how this happened."
Jim started in a low voice, "Well, there were six girls in the room, but Beth was the prettiest by far..." He looked over at how Rick was hanging on his words. "Come on, man. There's nothing really to it. We watched a movie, got really tired, and things took a turn for the unexpected when we went to rest."
"Aw, man. That's awesome. I'm really happy for you. You gotta give me more details later, though."
The bell rang then, though, interrupting them. In unison, they said, in dull monotones, "Time to take the classes..." Then they laughed as they got up to go to the first one.
