"Karyn, you love me."

She smiled and leaned towards Jon. What came next was the deepest kiss that anyone had ever given him.

After it was over, Jon said "Wow. That was amazing."

"You act like we've never kissed before," Karyn said.

"We haven't."

"Of course, we haven't."

Oh boy, not again, Jon thought.

"Karyn, you're not in love with me. We're just really good friends."

"Of course, I'm not in love with you. Why would you even think that?" she asked.

"Don't you remember being in love with me?" he asked her. Jon found that if he asked questions, his ability wouldn't work, since questions weren't statements.

"No."

Jon wrote down on the piece of paper: You were. Just a few seconds ago.

"But ... I don't remember."

Jon wrote: You kissed me.

Karyn denied it. As far as she could remember, it never happened. Apparently, every time Jon spoke "the truth", the person he talked to got his or her mind altered, especially their memory, in the same way that his mom really thought that she was a Goth, as though she had been one for months or even years.

"What am I gonna do, Karyn? I can't live like this."

"No, you can't," Karyn said. Jon was glad that she at least agreed with him, until he heard what she said next. "I think suicide is a good remedy."

"What?"

"Your only option is to kill yourself, Jon."

He realized what he had said, that he couldn't live like this. Now Karyn thought that he wanted to kill himself.

"I don't want to kill myself."

"Well, that's good," Karyn said. "Suicide is a bad idea. Nothing can be so bad that you can't deal with it."

Jon was getting used to it, the simple change of mind, just by one simple sentence. But regardless of that, he wanted this power gone. When he wished for it, it seemed like a good idea, but now ...

How was he supposed to go on through life like this? He can't talk to anyone, unless he only asks questions. Could he never have conversations ever again? Was he now only limited to writing on paper as a means to communicate?

This new ability was becoming more of a curse than a blessing.
