Karyn sat on Jon's bed. "What did you want to tell me?"
"I used the stone to give me a special ability."
"What did you wish for?" she asked.
"People believe anything I say."
"Of course, people believe anything you say. You're not a liar, Jon."
"See, it just happened."
"What just happened?"
"You believed me."
"Why wouldn't I?"
This was getting ridiculous. How was Jon going to explain this to her when she reacted to him just like everyone else? Maybe he should have used the stone to make Karyn immune. Now, it may be too late to make the augmentation.
"Listen, Karyn. It's really not that important."
"Okay."
"You're okay with that?"
"Well, yeah. If it's not important."
It was happening again. Couldn't Jon say anything without using his ability? Did he have to watch everything he said from now on?
Then an idea sprung to mind. He could write what he wanted to tell her. His ability only worked with speech, as far as he knew. So, it should work.
Jon grabbed a pen and a piece of paper. Then he wrote down what he had wished for.
Karyn read it, then looked up at him. "You're kidding."
Jon shook his head. It was probably a good idea not to talk.
"This is amazing. How many people have you used it on already?"
Jon wrote down names: Zoe, Mom, and You.
"Me? When did you use it on me?"
Jon wrote down: Over the phone and here.
"I don't even remember."
Then Jon wrote: Let me test out something.
Karyn was hesitant to agree, but then said "Okay."
"Karyn ..." Jon began to say.
