Scrolling down, I saw the actual mission on the ship. The G.C. Mariana was run by a radical religious faction of sun worshippers that hated alien races. While they were indeed on an exploratory mission to establish a colony, a secondary objective was to kill any non-human that we encountered on the way. Our group would settle for making alliances with others for tackling bigger threats, but all they could hope is to be subjugated and enslaved by us after the threat was eradicated. To that end, there was a force of 50 boys that were to fight and explore planets. That was where I was. I either needed to become a badass fighter, or isolate myself from other Humans. I was not a genocidal maniac. As a level 1 Player, I could not be certain of my safety. That made me roll my eyes. I looked at how I could help myself keep safe from the others. I knew there was a skill tree system in the game. That could work for me. There were many skill trees to max out, so a Player could be a jack of all trades and a master of either one to the detriment of all others, or none but competent in all the skills.
There were the Combat, Racial, Biological and Astrobiological trees. Combat referred to fighting. Racial trees allowed me to improve various aspects of being Human. It was a good bet that I would need it. Biological meant I could increase or manipulate my body to my advantage. Astrobiological trees linked to alien races and travel. In theory, I could make it so that I could survive on other planets or make my biology compatible or incompatible with alien races. That could be beneficial if I wanted to explore other planets. At level 1, the player was given five skill points to allocate. Since it was the first week, there was a perk of having an additional ten skill points. That meant that I had fifteen points to allocate. I went to the Racial tree to see what I could do with myself. There were multiple skills ranging from flight speed to willpower to exoskeleton strength. Even oil/egg production could be changed with enough points. I wondered which ones to pick. I dumped it all in the Combat trees. I put five points into Melee Combat, five in Rifles and five in Blades. That gave a 15% boost to damage.
When bright light turned on 15 minutes later, I was surprised. There was a voice on the announcement system. It said "It is now time to get up. Rise and shine in the light of the Sun, young Rays. Today is another day." It was all robotic and staticky. Everyone got up and began getting dressed. It was a white cotton shirt with camo pants. I liked it. The colors were yellow, orange and red. When they started to line up in 6 rows of 8, I got in one of the lines to not stand out. Two people were at the back. Once we were all in line, The door rose from the floor into the ceiling. We then marched out of the room and down the hallway. We made our way to a dining hall. Once there, we lined up to get food. It was a protein bar, water, and a fruit. Apparently, the bar held all the nutrients one would need for a day. We sat at long tables and ate. The boys were mostly quiet, but there was some small talk between some of them. Looking at them, they were all colors of the rainbow represented in their eyes and hairs. They also were all tan from being in the sun for so long. I had brown hair and light brown eyes.
