"Like trying to figure out what's different about this reality," said Karyn. "We can't take anything for granted. Not even something really basic ... like our races. You could've been Japanese or something ... like that boy ... what's his name ... Jun?"
Yuki didn't think that name sounded quite right. But it was Japanese, and that boy was definitely Japanese. Japanese Japanese, not Japanese-American. So he couldn't be a Jon. That name faded away in her mind as a strange thought came to dominate it. Did Karyn just say I could've been Japanese? As if I'm not Japanese? Yuki gasped. She looked at her forearms. They were pink and covered with fine blonde hairs.
"What's wrong, Jackie?" asked Karyn.
