Yukio was walking down the hall when she suddenly bumped into someone. There was a bright flash of light, and she suddenly felt dizzy.
"Are you all right?" a female voice asked, grasping her arm.
"I guess..." Yukio said, and paused. The voice had spoken in English, and she'd responded in kind. But it had required no focusing...it had just been automatic. "What, what did I...?" She trailed off. Perfect English...perfect ACCENTLESS English.
"Apologies," a thickly accented voice said. She looked up and saw a boy, dressed in a suit was much too formal for the school.
She was confused. It looked like the same boy...but he looked...Japanese now. And hadn't she bumped into him?
"It's fine," Yukio said, marveling at the ease in which she spoke.
"You are no hurt?" He asked.
"No...no...."
"Be more careful next time," the blond girl holding her arm told him.
Yukio could see the boy translating the answer. "O-kay," Jon said, and bowed before heading off.
"Come on," the girl said. "We have to get looking." She was acting as if she was Yukio's friend, and had just left the boy she was usually with walk off as if he was a stranger...not that he seemed to notice anything was wrong either.
"Where are we going?" Yukio asked her. She still felt odd. What other surprises were in store for her?
"Come on, Karyn," Yukio said, heading off with her. "You know, I don't know how he gets by," she said. "Must be hard for him."
"Are you feeling sorry for him?" Karyn asked. "I know its hard learning a new language, but..."
"Maybe he just needs some new friends. People pick on him all the time," she said. "And I think his shyness is kind of cute."
"I think maybe we have bigger problems..." Karyn said...
"Like what?" Yukio said.
