After Nadine left her first period class, her body walked to her locker. The real Nadine, trapped inside, had tried constantly to regain control of her body. The thought that she'd be stuck in this pagan girl's body, for the rest of her life, horrified her. But it was all for nothing. It was impossible.
A few seconds after arriving at her locker, she noticed Sabrina talking to a boy she recognized as Jon Gibson. Then her head turned back to her locker. Her hands started grabbing books and other things, completely out of her control.
"Hey, Nadine," a voice said, about a minute later.
She turned towards the voice and saw who she thought was Karyn Black, a fairly nice girl. But now she was a Goth. Nadine wondered if Karyn had been taken over in the same manner as she had.
Her body grinned at her. "Hey, Karyn."
"Did you hear about Sabrina's new toy?" she asked Nadine.
"No. What is it?"
"It's a wishing stone," Karyn told her.
A wishing stone? the real Nadine thought. Wishes don't exist. But her body made a different reaction. "Really? She's so lucky. I've been trying for years to get something like that. How did she get one?" she asked.
"She got it from Jon."
"Her boyfriend?"
"Yeah."
"You know, I don't understand what she sees in him. He's not even Goth."
"He's a nice enough guy," Karyn said.
"That's the difference between you and me, Karyn. You like nice guys. I don't," Nadine said.
Karyn shrugged her shoulders. "Anyway, I just thought you should know."
"Thanks for the update," she said, as Karyn walked away. Nadine turned back towards Sabrina, but she wasn't in the hall anymore. The real Nadine couldn't hear Goth Nadine's thoughts, but she figured that Goth Nadine really wanted that stone. And since the real Nadine couldn't do anything, she was going to just be along for the ride ... wherever that ride takes her.
