"Hey," someone suddenly said. And both Steve and Mrs. Finch turned towards the voice. It was the assistant principal, Mr. Sheppard. "Steve Farber," he said. "What did I tell you about cross-dressing in school?"
"Huh?"
"I told you that this behavior won't be tolerated. You want to wear girl's T-shirts, fine. But dresses are out of the question. Apparently, I wasn't clear the last time we spoke."
"What are you talking about?" Steve asked. "I'm not a cross-dresser."
Mr. Sheppard looked Steve up and down. "Could have fooled me." He turned to leave, but then noticed Mrs. Finch. "And Margaret? I know you like to wear boy's clothes. But this isn't the appropriate place for it."
"What?" Mrs. Finch asked.
"Steve, I want you to go home right now and change out of that dress," Mr. Sheppard said, on his way out of the library.
Steve turned towards the librarian. "He thinks we're cross-dressers."
