Sarah headed home, afraid to face her mother. Susan McMillan was a model. To see her daughter coming home in geek glasses and with frizzy hair would mortify her.
She had gone to see the nurse, who had given her an eye test...as if she needed that to confirm she'd suddenly gone blind and advised her to keep the glasses on. "Eyestrain can cause you to need glasses temporarily," she'd theorized. "You'd better see an eye doctor to get checked. But if the glasses work..."
Sarah spent the whole time going home grumbling, and slipped into her house. She discovered the house was empty. There was a note on the machine telling her to order something in, as her parents had gone out to some affair or another...mercifully.
Sarah ordered a pizza, and completely and utterly upset and depressed. She didn't even notice she ate the entire thing. Then she collapsed on the bed and went to sleep.
