Gladys was hurt. She'd been so thrilled about her personal triumph and then Sarah had to come in and insult everything about her...mostly things she couldn't do anything about.
She took her glasses off, placing them next to the sink, and splashed some cold water on her face, wishing she didn't have to wear glasses. She had completely forgotten about the sticky note of that morning, and was oblivious to the fact that her desire to take on aspects of Sarah's life was doing just that...at Sarah's expense.
Her mind ringing with Sarah's criticisms, Gladys didn't hear the noise of someone hiding in a nearby stall, or notice she'd left her glasses behind and was walking out of the bathroom with 20/20 vision.
Sarah returned to the bathroom to get her bag, which she'd forgotten when she stormed out a few minutes earlier. She paused to look at herself in the mirror. She would be glad when she get home and wait for the day to be over.
She squinted, everything starting to blur. She squinted more, and stumbled. Was she going blind now? On top of everything else? She reached for her bag and grabbed on to something else. Bringing it closer, she discovered it was a pair of glasses...and everything through the lenses was completely clear.
She put them on. She could see, but she didn't like what she could see. Namely her beautiful face marred by the frizzy hair she couldn't manage and the glasses. She hurried off to see if the school nurse was still in the building.
Meanwhile, Athena peeked out of the stall, glad she was gone. What she saw had been strange, but she had an overpowering urge not to think about it that reeked of one of those sticky notes, along with a growing urge to go look at a group of people and complete the wish that had been forced on her. That one, for now, was controllable, but it was building.
Tomorrow would be another day. Hopefully all the notes would be found and no new ones would appear.
