Gladys was ecstatic. She'd gone through an entire period worth of exercise without breaking a sweat, even been complimented by the Coach and the other girls for how quickly she'd picked things up.
The cheerleaders who used to pick on her were looking at her with new respect, although she could hear them talking about her weight and appearance...She couldn't do anything about those. She wasn't really vain, but her whole family was overweight. It was a matter of genetics. The same reason she had glasses. She'd tried contacts, but they irritated her eyes.
She wasn't unhappy with herself so much as she could see herself...not as a thin as a rail supermodel, but as a more average person who wasn't picked on. She imagined herself winning the respect of the popular girls who had picked on her, and with her latest victory, it didn't seem so far off.
She hurried off to change and get to her next class.
