Melissa had apparently arrived to her class too early, as no one was there. She said goodbye to Gladys, then sat down at her usual desk and waited for the other students to file in.
First there were the geeks, mainly Kyla Leeson, Leonard Drullers, and Donald Stub. (For some reason, Biff Meadows showed up a little later. Usually he came in with Kyla and the others.) Then there were people like Karyn Black, Tim Brant, and Zach Jones. And then the preps came in - the ones that Melissa had previously called her friends (but in her current state, not any more): Jessica Davis and Amber Levine. A couple of jocks too: Mike Matthews and Randy Goodman. And right before the bell rang, Goth boy Trevor Blake strolled in. He was always last.
And just after the bell rang, someone noticed a sticky note attached to the underside of their desk. The person grabbed it, looked at it, then read it.
"I wish ..."
