"Man, what the fuck is wrong with Nadine today?" Zoe asked, approaching her friend Athena DeVries. "She's in a really pissy mood."
"Nadine's always in a pissy mood," Athena said.
"She wasn't earlier this morning. Did you keep her up again?"
Athena looked at Zoe oddly. "Keep her up? What are you talking about?"
"Oh, here she comes now," Zoe said.
Athena turned and got a shock. The person approaching them was Nadine Ferguson, but she was dressed in an outfit similar to Athena's. Nadine would never do anything like that, not even if someone paid her.
"Oh goddess. Look what she's wearing," Athena said.
Now it was Zoe who looked oddly at Athena. "It's the same thing she wore when she came to school today. She came here with you. Don't you remember?"
"You did this!" Nadine yelled, pointing at Athena. "You cast one of your demonic spells on me, you witch. Now everyone thinks I'm like you."
"I didn't do anything. It wasn't me," Athena said, but Nadine wasn't buying it.
"This is exactly what I told the school would happen if you people were allowed to stay here."
"Nadine, what's the matter with you?" Zoe asked, clearly confused by her behavior.
"There's nothing wrong with me. But there is with you," she said, pointing at Athena again. "It's too bad we don't burn witches at the stake anymore."
"Typical Nadine," Athena said. "Anything that doesn't fall within your little realm of acceptable behavior is immediately considered evil."
"Witchcraft is evil," Nadine said.
"Since when do you think that?" Zoe asked.
Both Nadine and Athena looked at her. "She's always thought that," Athena said.
Then Nadine and Athena looked at each other. "Everyone is treating me like I'm supposed to be this way ... except for you," Nadine said. "Can you explain that?"
"I can't. But, I know you're not supposed to be this way. Although, you definitely look good in that outfit."
"I'm getting rid of this outfit the first chance I get, which will probably be when I get home, unfortunately." Then she gasped. "I hope my parents don't see me like this."
"Your parents?" Zoe asked. "Nadine, your parents disowned you ever since you started studying the occult. You've been living with Athena since then."
"They disowned me?" Nadine said, at the same time as when Athena said "Nadine lives with me?"
"What the fuck is wrong with you two?" Zoe asked. "Ugh, just forget it." She walked away, fed up with their weird behavior.
Nadine and Athena looked at each other again. Nadine was absolutely sure that Athena had something to do with her "transformation", but now she wasn't so sure. Athena seemed to be just as confused as Nadine. She certainly wasn't faking it. But if it wasn't Athena who changed her, then who was it?
