The next morning Karyn came over to Jon's place. She knew that he told her to meet up at school but she was eager to try some things with the rock.
"Hi Mrs Gibson, is Jon ready?"
"Yes, he's up in his room. He said to just go up" Mrs Gibson turned to herself, muttering about how nice it would be for her son to have a girlfriend of his own. Karyn found this strange. She had frequently come over to Jon's house but she had simply been Jon's friend. Perhaps this was how Mrs Gibson acted now that Karyn was a busty blonde. Perhaps she liked it.
Karyn's thoughts turned to the soft jazz playing in Jon's bedroom. Inside, Jon was naked save for black suit pants, and a rose in his mouth. He looked deep in thought but as he saw her he paused and then said
"Your dress, it shines like the colour of the sky and brings out the colour in your eyes." Was this some sort of serenade? Jon had put on a fake French accent and Karyn's face went red because of it. Her face was also red because of Jon's compliment. She had spent ten minutes that morning deciding whether to wear a dress, and then another twenty minutes deciding which one to wear.
"Your presence, it puts the happiness into my day" At the word 'day' Jon looked dazed, shook his head and looked at the clock. He could see that he was late and so he told Karyn.
"We'd better get going or else we'll be late" Jon tidied up his room, putting papers away turning off the Jazz and finally, took out his rock. Karyn was confused. Did he like her? Was he acting? He certainly wasn't saying anything at the moment and Karyn didn't want to ruin her sweet memory.
"I wish I was ready for school." The stone glowed and a t-shirt materialised around Jon's torso. His suit pants morphed into jeans the same blue as Karyn's skirt. Jon rushed out the door flinging his bag on and Karyn followed. On their way out they passed Mrs Gibson just coming home from her night shift at the hospital.
"You're going to be late, do you want a lift?" Mrs Gibson had the window rolled down.
"No thanks, mum we'll manage" Jon winked to Karyn and pointed to his stone.
"Be safe then honey." came the response.
Jon turned to Karyn "How long ago did you get here?" "I need to know, quickly"
"Um, I only got here five, ten minutes ago. I went straight up to see you."
"Thanks." Jon took the stone out and made his wish "I wish that Karyn and I would travel backwards half an hour in time" The stone glowed, the sun moved just a fraction downwards and the air got colder. It was 7:30am. They had an hour before school started and so they started walking.
"Tell me about this morning" Karyn said "You were acting weird. You were speaking with a fake French accent and said that my dress brought out the colour in my eyes or something."
"Well it does," Jon smiled. Karyn had blushed again "But I was trialling multiple personality disorder. That particular personality was Bon Jouirno," Karyn looked puzzled. "It's French for good day. I made him to do my French homework for me."
"You started doing your homework just then? You didn't think that maybe you might be late?"
"What? No, that was last night. He was supposed to go away when I said the word "day" but I guess that he didn't want to leave. I'll make a wish to change that I guess." Jon looked down at the stone in his hand.
"I wish that whenever I make a wish with an escape word, I will always be always able to say the word unless I'm asleep."
Jon returned the stone to his pocket. "He didn't do anything to you did he? Bon Jouirno I mean."
"No, he complimented me on my dress. And he said that my presence " Karyn closed her mouth. She didn't want to mention it really. It was a nice personal compliment and she knew when someone had Multiple Personality Disorder their personalities desires were sometimes linked. However she didn't know if that was the case now. If Jon really did like her, she wasn't going to be the one to make him say it.
Jon interrupted her thoughts. "You stayed after I said that? Wow, I'm really lucky to have you as my best friend to stick with me. If it were one of the others I bet they would've screamed and run out of the room." Karyn blushed for the third time that day.
They arrived at school and sat down. Karyn tried to catch her breath. Jon pulled the stone out and started to toss it again. Sarah McMillian walked past once again followed by her entourage of males. She looked almost identical to Karyn expect for the fact that Sarah was much skinnier. When Karyn had made her wish she had gained and extra 20 pounds on top of her boobs. At 5'5" she used to weigh 110 pounds but now she was 135 and puffing. Karyn guessed it made sense. If she was skinny with big boobs then she would be drafted into cheerleading. And if she was a cheerleader then she would be one of Sarah's friends. And there was no way that Sarah would allow her to hang out with Jon. She took another look at Sarah. Her entourage still followed her like a pack of zombies; that is if zombies ate skinniness instead of brains.
Karyn spoke up. "Sarah is so " Karyn paused as she struggled to find the right word. "She has so many boys just trying to get her attention but she'll never really date anyone of them. Not properly. She'll just be dating them so she can use them for projects or because they're hot. I bet that someone like you wouldn't have a chance of getting a date with her. No offence."
"None taken but I wish I could take your bet because I would. I reckon with the right attitude." Karyn eyes went wide. The stone glowed in Jon's hands but he didn't notice and continued. "She's really not my type though. She has a really nice figure and her hair is nice and yeah but it's just her attitude. You wouldn't date a guy who was a jerk would you? On the other hand, if I could date someone with her body and your..." Karyn looked had been giving Jon the death stare. Finally he looked up at her. "What? I'm sorry. I won't bring up your dating life again" Jon smiled a cheeky smile.
"No it's not that." Karyn breathed. Her face was white as she touched the rock in Jon's hands. "I wish that we could find out what Jon's previous wish was."
A recording played in the air. "I wish I could you up on your bet because I would. I reckon you're wrong." Jon's recorded voice faded into the air.
