Oh goodness, a reader? I didn't know we had any left ;) I should thank you first for the interest in the story.
I wouldn't worry, Irredecent Stars is a bit... out there at the moment. We intentionally avoided real world politics in the first story (though I was keener to explore it) and its nice to explore now some of how that could change if the world undergoes a complete shift with many new species, and abilities. Hence the introduction of General Makepeace and what major military powers might have been up to,
As he is my character, I will say Makepeace is an honourable man, and follows his orders. He's pretty much the cardboard cut out general, until we find more defining qualities for him.
That Lucas is with him should provide some interesting dynamics, one hopes. I don't intend it to be a platform to make a political statement, its a fictional story and Lucas is clearly very anti-military in the story. The general is locked in a form where she currently depends on Lucas at the moment, so is not likely to force the opinion any time soon... and Lucas is in a position that will require a military perspective. Not just due to her present circumstances, but in her new position on Earth as the moon's gatekeeper too.
Though of course what lessons, or character building is made, is up to her.
