Doing that meant that we were going to have a target on our backs from those that wanted clout, but we were safe until then. We got to an inn and paid for a week in advance. "This means that we have this time to look around for a residence." "With how they are treating us, no one is going to sell to us." Anthony said. I rolled my eyes at him. "This is why you need to have a good head on your shoulders. It's like I told your father. Money may be a terrible master, but an excellent servant. We nab an urchin of the streets, clean him up give him some nice clothes and give him some coin. He will make the deal for us as our servant. Once the ink is dry, we move." They blinked at me and then said "That is theft!" Fabien snapped. "How? Do nobles not have stewards and administrative people to act in their name. How is this different? You just have to have your names on the paper work as it gets signed." The next day, we sent the couple of Fabien's knights to look for property for sale. I looked for an urchin. One was getting beaten up. I broke up the fight and took the victim back.
Evan was his name. We cleaned him up and clothed him. Fabien already started righting the letter for Evan to deliver. One of the knights came back with a hit. It was a decent house with six bedrooms, a kitchen, outhouse and both a sitting and dining room. There was also a small stable for horses. It was pretty good. The Swifthearts made 2. I and human knights put the total to 5. That left a guest room. That was the one we were going to buy. If not, renting would be what we would need to do. The letter of interest was finished the next day. "Alright Evan. Give this to the owner. You are our servant. If anyone asks, we are very busy preparing for the tournament. Tell us what the price is, and you will be paid well." I then gave him the letter. "O-of course, sir." he said before hurrying off. A few hours later, he came back. The buying price was in our reach, but our funds would be pretty low. They wanted to buy it outright. "Fabien, take your guards and bring the money with Evan. We'll hang back until you return with the deed and the keys." I instructed. He did as I said. He showed us the deed.
I smiled and said "Now that we have property in our name, it's time to move in. No one can stop us with a deed and the keys." We then went to the manor. It was on the outskirts of the city. It had definitely seen better days, but I could see that it would not be hard to fix it when we got more money. The tournament was in a few days. We were not taking it too seriously. It was just the excuse we used to get our feet in the door. Now we had an entire house. They could not kick us out without good reason. I was not going to do anything to mess this up for us. "Write your letter to your father. We have property and a contact in General Kaiton. As long as we use our reputation and do well in the tournament, we should establish ourselves." They nodded and got to work. When they sent the letters of to the postal guild the job they had was now done. The baron could join us at his leisure. I made sure I was rested for the tournament. Just because it was an excuse did not mean that I wanted to lose in an early round. We would all look weak and foolish. At least 1 win was what I was going for.
