If discord among the soldiers was allowed to rise from our interactions, that would defeat the purpose of the Mocca units being here. I could not allow that to happen. "Do you have a name?" Berthun asked. "I have a name. I am now Lieutenant Lexis Mocca. Nice to meet you." They were shocked and scrambled to their feet. "Sorry to have bothered you, sir!" Berthun said in a panic. "Ni-nice to meet you, sir!" Burglem added. I put them both at ease with a smile and said "I was the one to approach you. You did nothing wrong. I just wanted to know some of the other members of this company." Berthun and Burglem Naylor were Adamu with wheat blond hair and eyes the color of a clear sky. The brothers were privates and fresh out of boot camp. Both were ready to serve their country. I left them soon after. As I left the mess hall where they were, I was bumped into by someone. I turned to look at them. I saw it was one of the Najja privates. Purple hair and gray eyes made him pretty unique on base. He quickly scrambled to his feet. "Sorry! I didn't meant to go bumping into you or nothing!"
As he apologized, noticed that he had a ball next to his feet. There were other Najja soldiers around. They were silent. I said it was alright and got his name so that I can keep track of him in the future. He was a young man by the name of Marc Prothello. I told them about the coming competitions. "If you tackle like that, you'll be sure to get to the finals." I joked. Some of the others chuckled. Marc said "At least I have a shot to get there. You'll all be knocked out by the second round!" He snapped back at them and they began to trade lighthearted barbs. The banter continued as I left. They eventually continued playing their game. I saw one of the Mocca units walking and talking with some female soldiers. That was good for us. The more that we could get the soldiers to like us, the better it would be for us. A normal day for an active duty soldier consists of performing physical training, work within their military occupational specialty (MOS) and basic soldier skills. Physical training consists of cardiovascular exercises as well as strength training. MOS is the job a soldier performs on a daily basis.
Just because we were androids, did not mean that we did not have other responsibilities aside from looking nice and doing basic drills. Soldier is an umbrella term for the many tasks that one in the military might need to face. It all would be too much for one person, so people had specialized jobs. There are over 100 MOS in the military run smoothly. A good MOS could be any job that helped the military run smoothly. The ones that we were given ranged from the humble Infantrymen and Cavalry Scouts to Combat Engineers. Considered the backbone of the Army, infantry is tasked with defending our country by land. They’re responsible for assisting in reconnaissance missions, processing prisoners, using and maintaining combat weapons and aiding vehicle mobilization. Infantrymen should be able to perform under stress and be in top physical and mental shape. Calvary scouts are responsible for tracking and reporting enemies. It’s their job to report to the commander in battle, navigate and collect data. As communicators in battle, all cavalry scouts should perform well times of duress.
Keeping composed during times of high stress or under duress was an easy task for an android. We were not burdened with the intense emotions and mood swings of a human. Even among those of us with full self-awareness, we only had very muted reactions to others due to our programming. In a pinch, we could I was personally assigned to the Combat Engineer role. Combat engineers are tasked with the supervising and assisting of their team members through combat in rough terrain. At a glance, they must create fighting and defensive positions, place explosives and detect mines. Because their job is out in combat, they must enjoy working outdoors and express an interest in engineering. Working outdoors was something that I was ambivalent to. I had no doubts that I could do my tasks. I read the instruction manuals for the various explosive devices and mine detection equipment. Being an android, my memory was photographic. After reading the manuals once, I was perfectly aware of everything in there. I went to the warehouses to ensure the equipment was in top shape.
