The alarm went off, waking Brooke to a whole new day. She was excited. The school was having cheerleader tryouts after school that day. And Brooke had signed up. She thought she had a really good chance. Not only because Nikki, her best friend, was already on the squad, but also because she was really good. She just had to make Sarah McMillan see that. Sarah was the head of the squad, so what she says, goes.
Brooke sat on her bed and sighed. Soon she'd be a cheerleader and everything would be just perfect.
She stood up and walked to the bathroom, but as she did, she heard the doorbell ring. She made a detour towards the front door and opened it. A FedEx man stood outside with a package in his hands. It wasn't very big. Brooke wondered what it was.
"I need you to sign this," the man said. After Brooke signed for it, he gave her the box and left.
"Who was that, dear?" her mom asked.
"Someone delivering a package ... uh ... to me?" she said, realizing that her name was on the box.
"Did you order something?"
"I don't think so," Brooke said, then took the box back to her room and opened it. Inside was a small plain-looking stone and a note. The note, astonishingly, was from her late grandfather. He was an archeologist and had gathered quite a few relics from across the planet. In the note, he claimed that this stone was one of those relics and that it could grant wishes. All she had to do was touch the stone and make a wish.
Obviously not believing it, but still a bit curious, she held the stone and said "I wish ..."
