The next morning Zoe woke up and got dressed. She threw on a black T-shirt and some jeans. She didn't bother taking a shower. She wasn't looking forward to breakfast this morning but she knew that she had to apologise to her dad.
Entering the kitchen she saw Jon and her dad already having breakfast. Mom must have gone to work early as she wasn't around. Her father had looked up when she entered but soon went back to eating his breakfast.
Zoe felt bad for her actions yesterday so she tried to apologise. "Dad." She said but he didn't look up tears starting to fall from his eyes. "Dad!" Zoe tried again. This time he looked up and Zoe saw that not only was he upset but he was afraid of her.
Zoe really felt bad now. She moved gently towards him. "Look dad, I'm really really sorry about yesterday. I didn't mean what I said about hating you."
Her dad seemed to relax a bit. "Are you sure?" He asked sniffling a bit. "You sounded like you meant it when you yelled at me."
"I know dad, but I really am sorry. I was just annoyed that you had been in to my room and it came out wrong." His dad nodded. "And then I left because I needed some space to calm down." Zoe continued.
"It's ok honey." Her dad said. "Apology accepted." He said opening his arms and inviting Zoe to hug him. Zoe inwardly groaned but moved close to hug him.
"That doesn't mean I forgive you though." He said as Zoe hugged him. "You really hurt my feelings yesterday and it's going to be a while before I can trust you again." Zoe nodded in understanding.
"And you are still grounded for the month and you will still have to come straight home from school understand?" Her dad asked as he released the hug.
"Yes dad." Zoe replied glumly.
"Good, now eat your breakfast." Roger said as the doorbell rang.
"Now who could that be?" He asked aloud as he got up and pulled his bathrobe close around him.
Zoe sat down at the table next to Jon and helped herself to some cereal.
"Oh Karyn. It's wonderful to see you again." Roger's voice called from the hallway. "I assume that you're here for Jon? He's just finishing his breakfast but you're welcome to wait if you'd like."
