Truth be told, Karyn was actually pretty good at History classes, but this one she couldn't make heads or tails of it. There was a reason, of course. This was a completely different reality than the one she knew. She expected that genders would be reversed, and it was true. They were. Throughout American history, in this new reality, the majority of soldiers were female. And while the conflicts were nearly as bloody, some battles and wars had different outcomes. Non-conflict history was different too, as names she knew by heart never invented things, nor did they start organizations, or anything like that, mainly because they were men, and in this reality, for a lot of American history, they didn't have the rights that they did now. But all in all, besides the obvious change in gender roles, the world was pretty much the same as it was before Jon and Karyn made their wishes. But that wasn't very helpful for her class.
The teacher (Mrs. Amelia Plunk) eyed Karyn suspiciously several times during class, probably wondering why she wasn't raising her hand to answer questions. Karyn was a pretty eager student, apparently, as she was in the normal reality, so of course the teacher might think that something was up.
After class was over, Karyn grabbed her books and headed straight to the door, but was stopped by the teacher. "Karyn, stay for a moment," she said, sitting on the edge of her desk and smoothing out her necktie. "Is there something you'd like to tell me?"
What could Karyn say? Hey, I can't answer any of those questions, because I'm from an alternate reality? Yeah, that wouldn't go over very well. Maybe she could just make something up to explain her behavior. But what?
