There are a lot of old threads that have just fallen to the wayside for whatever reason, but it doesn't mean that they're not good. Whatever you feel you can contribute to, you should be comfortable doing so. That's the beauty of a site like this: a million different launching points for anyone to take, even if it's already been taken. A recent author who will go unnamed has reminded me that "everything and everyone is welcome" might be stretching things a bit too far, but based on just this post from you, I'm positive you'll be a good contribution here no matter what thread you choose to add to :)
Regarding HTML, it's not used on this site. There's a blurb on formatting below every posting prompt that talks about formatting. I'll paste it here (since it's right in front of me anyway)
Formatting
HTML tags will be stripped from text entered into episodes, but it is possible to do simple text formatting in the following way:
Text surrounded by asterisks will become bold in the output.
Text surrounded by underscores will become italic.
It is also possible to insert links to other pages and embed images in the episodes.
To insert a link, enter the URL enclosed in carets (). For example.%20For%20example%20)http://somesite.comafter the address as followshttp://yahoo.com!Yahoo.
To embed an image in the episode, enclose the URL for the image in pipes (.%20For%20example%20)http://othersite.net/~user/pic.gif.
Happy writing :D
