Next door to Jon was the Drullers residence. Jon knew Leonard, the son, well enough. They both attended the same school, and had hung out, but were more friendly than actual friends. Leonard was interested in sci-fi, comics, and role-playing games.
It wasn't that Leonard wasn't nice, or that they didn't have a few things in common. It wasn't that Leonard was overweight. Jon wasn't that shallow. Leonard could be fairly disgusting at times though. Sometimes it smelled like he didn't shower for days. His taste in food tended toward the aromatic, garlic, onions, curry...
So that day, as he lay on the bed, watching TV, a strange feeling came over him, one he was barely aware of. He began to lose interest in the TV, except for its soothing noise. He curled up, making soft noises, his glasses slipping off his face.
He felt incredibly content. He dozed, uninterested in the world around him...at least until he got hungry. Oddly enough, his new lifestyle was not incredibly different than his old.
