Athena and Karyn were now back outside of the school building, right in front of the entrance.
"Oh holy god, I'm sorry! Forgive me! Please, take it away from me. I don't want to touch that thing any longer" Athena whimpered holding out the stone to Karyn.
"Uh... thank you? Who exactly are you?" Karyn asked, taking the stone from Athenas hand.
"I'm... uh... Athena... you know, Athena DeVries."
"Wait wait wait, what?! Athena?! Seriously?! What the fuck is going on?!" Karyn yelled.
"Sssshhh... Don't be so loud! I feel bad enough already. But I will tell you, and then head to class."
"Okay, I'm listening." Karyn crossed her arms and eyed Athena anew.
"I was looking up info about this stone when Zelda came and... well, she got angry and wished for something."
"What was that 'Something'?"
"For everyone to be different, that was her just now in the hallway. The guy looking like a jock"
"Okay, so that's why Jon is... wait, how am I still the same? Am I still the same?!" Karyn looked down at herself with fear.
"So you... uh... know what the stone can do?"
"Jons grandfather has sent it to him with a letter explaining how it works. Like, wishes can't be reversed, whoever doesn't hear a wish won't notice changes and the range is several miles or something."
"Several miles?! Very powerful then, but I guess this accursed stone you have there is powerful as well as you see."
"As well?" Karyn furrowed her brows.
"If what you said is true, it confirms my theory. I saw someone sneak out of Jons room yesterday with a stone in his hand, he wished to be teleported home after he fell out of the window. But Jon still had a stone in his room and we suspected whoever that was, replaced the stone."
"So... there are more wishing stones?"
"Yes, several. But all with different powers or... let's say, restrictions. This is one of them, but we haven't found out what its powers are exactly."
"Well, let's find out then. I wish to have a sheet of paper in my hand with the rules of this wishing stone." Karyn held one of her hands in front of her and a piece of paper appeared.
"Kaaaryn! You can't just do that!" Athena hissed.
"Why didn't you do that?"
"Y-you never know what a stone can possibly do. I feel horrible for having used it just now. May god forgive my sins."
"Your demeanor is veeeery different from usual. But well, let's see.
The stone can be used by saying the words "I wish" and following it with instructions.
The stone has a range of 656 feet.
The stone will retain memories from before fullfilling a wish for whoever heard someone speak the wish.
The stone can not reverse or alter its fullfilled wishes
"Sounds the same as the other stone to me, only the range is a bit small. So people out of range will remember the old reality... now how to turn everyone back..." Karyn wondered, looking at the paper.
"You have to be careful from now on. I won't help you any further!" Athena said with her still soft voice, but in a tone that sounded very certain.
"What, why?" Karyn asked shocked.
"I wanted to tell you what I told you, but I don't want any further involvement in this. You see what it has done to me? I don't want to have anything to do with that sinful stuff anymore. I should've given the stone to the church, but I stole it and..."
"Ok ok, calm down. You are the only person who knows what happened and can help me... and you seem to have a lot of knowledge about this stuff."
"Karyn. I... I know... but I've got this weird feeling. Only thinking about how I was, how I dressed and what I did fills me with so much disgust. I know it is part of the change, but right now I... I would prefer to stay this way and stay away from anything related to magic."
"You're some religious bible fan now, that's obvious. But how can you prefer that even though you have your memories. I mean, you are dressed just like some of those girls advertising the holy word or something."
"That's the problem. I feel like I would like to do exactly that! Support the church and help bringing our community closer together. But... well... I guess I need to actually read the bible now.", Athena said with excitement.
"So... your memories haven't changed, you don't even know the bible, but you are still a fan?"
"I know enough about it to realize the bibles qualities and the wisdom that must be written in there. Those witches books though, who are of opposing view contain a lot of ways to manipulate things or even people. This is not the way I want to be anymore. And the words from the bible I have picked up here and there already have been very inspiring to me, at least now I feel that way."
"Fine... do what you want. Then I have to fix this alone." Karyn shoved the stone into her bag visibly angry.
"I'm sorry, I really am. I'll leave it to you if you turn me back to my sinful self. If god wants me to go my current way, he will guide me even then."
"Athena, just leave already, enjoy your bible or whatever you'll do."
"I will head to class now, I've made things worse enough for myself already, I guess I'll see you in detention then."
"... yeah... detention." Karyn mumbled and watched Athena walk back into school.
"Oh, wait, Ath-... ok... she's gone. Who was that suited man before, a teacher?"
Karyn pulled out the stone from her bag again and held it in front of her, looked back at the paper with the ruleset and frowned.
"I can't turn anyone back though. I can't even think of a way to do anything to alter the wish.... Well, let's get some help. I wish the backside of this paper would tell me, if I can wish for Hailey to become a boy?", Karyn said and turned the paper around.
"WISHES CANNOT BE ALTERED", the paper shouted at her by deforming into something resembling lips only to return to being a normal piece of paper again. Karyn in response let the piece of paper fall down to the ground and stumbled a few steps backwards.
"Ok... Shit... Note to myself, be careful what you wish for."
