Jane woke up with a start, looking around her room. She'd had the weirdest dream. She tried to remember it...something about her being a single mother...with children...maybe she'd been watching too much primetime TV.
Today was the first day of school after spring break. The break had been one of the most stressful ever. Her grandfather had died...not that she was so sure he was really dead. There were too many unanswered questions. And what he had left her raised a great deal more.
She put on a robe and went down to breakfast. Her parents were at the table. She frowned at them. They always seemed to be kissing, or being affectionate. Why couldn't they keep in in the bedroom? It was disgusting to see one's parents do that sort of thing.
She grabbed the milk away from her little brother and poured a bowl of cereal. She wasn't looking forward to school today...she was 14 years old... a freshman, and that put her at the bottom of the social ladder. She ate her breakfast in silence. Her best friends, Meghan and Nicholas would be waiting for her. She wasn't sure if she was going to tell them about the stone. She thought about keeping it to herself, sharing it with one(But which), or with both...
