As that was the case, we were actually more impoverished than the natives. I made sure that they saw that I was in the struggle with them. Me and my family were just as poor as the people that we were administrating over. All of our powers were used to keep the rowdiest of them in line. When some conflict happened, I was lenient and tended to favor the natives. That was not lost on those in the city. Eventually, they were tentatively giving some of the soldiers eepso out of charity as they passed by. When I heard that, I knew that things were starting to work. It took a few in-game months, but we were starting to see the economy of the county roar back to life. The money in the county was changing hands quickly and the soldiers were able to get some extra stuff if they did small services for money. That was when I instituted taxes on them. It was 5%. Something to get more coin back into the now empty coffers. The soldiers led by Travis was able to get the money by using his skills and powers to good use. With the taxes, I could afford to make towns and city districts for the men.
Being that they could now have homes of their own, the general morale of the armed services was much higher. Now this was a boon for me. Now they were happy, and a happy army was a loyal army. Their households could grow and they could have some trinkets and property in their lives. Luxuries could come later. The natives were able to slowly acclimate to them, and they see that we were not trying to oppress them. Especially with the others doing all sorts of atrocities with their people. They all could hear about it because we had fully open borders between our lands. Cohesion between the 5 racial groups began to appear. There was still some tension, but they could relate to each other on multilateral lines of affection. Lokos were naturals at the sea and fishing. Muros were strong and capable during the rebuilding stage. The normally snooty Draks were actually humbled that they were not the majority anymore here. It all started due to that easing on them. Suzie's land was in a similar state economically, but she allowed the soldiers to rape the natives at will. That was bad.
Coming off of that diplomatic sucess, the others were asking how I did it. My peasants were more docile than all the others. When I told them, they did not like what they heard. They would rather rule with an iron fist as they saw all the money go into their pockets. I could rule without problems now. When we got them to the point that they could make things and sell to other counties, fish was a really good export. So was the sea glass. Gasops and most of the ethnic groups did not work or trade with each other much. Our colonizing them forced them to be confederated under our rule. Selling the more inland counties fish granted them access to sources of food they never had before. The glass could be used for things that they would like such as windows and sculptures. That made money for us and we got wealthy for it. People in the streets were saying that it was a golden age for them. With that being the case, I could relax and work on establishing a demographic foothold in the area. That meant a cultural push for marrying and having babies. There were much more men than women.
