Gasops was very beautiful. They had silver eyes and red hair the color of spider lilies. The people of Gasops also had pale skin. Since it was a coastal county, fish was a large part of their diet. The hunters on the island also got a good amount of meat. The girls were all tomboys and the island was a fully egalitarian society. That was fine with me. I liked women who took could charge. Penelope and Mary were both strong and they knew about the true dangers of the real world. Men that understood that way of life would have no problems from me. The navy gave me command of six corvettes, a pair of gunboats and a destroyer. They were on the shore, but they did not have the infrastructure to dock them properly. That was going to be one of the first things we would have to do. Having all the men on land would be better for their own morale than having them stationed on the boat in shifts. Most of the sailors, about 55%, were Drak. 30% of the forces with me were Loko. 10% were Muro, and the rest were Fojun. Boatstrongs and Gillmonds were among the higher ups of the Loko ranks.
The Boatstrongs and Gillmonds both had strong ties with me. My family was married to them. I also made lots of social calls to them. As a Fojun, I was a minority, but all my money and privilege went a long way. The Muros on my force were not big fans of me. Karl and his friends did a really good job at poisoning the well against me due to their strong ethnic pride. I knew that there were some members of the Abollac noble family. Since they were of a noble house, I needed to keep them happy. It was simply how you played the game of politics. That would still take a backseat to making sure that the natives were taken care of. The last thing that I would need was a popular revolt that spread throughout the county. This was a very delicate situation. We were technologically superior to them in every way, but they knew the land better than us. Suzie just did a blitzkrieg shock and awe campaign that did not give them the chance to react or oppose her. The trauma was too great and the fell immediately to her forces. Conquering people was different from governing them. I had to rule them.
Her prerogatives were much different from mine. It would be annoying and near impossible to destroy their resistance once it reached a critical mass. Ken, Timothy, and even Travis would be my eyes and ears among the servicemen on my side. Leon, Luka and Link were viscounts and therefore my diplomatic agents to the people. There would also be some help from Penelope and Mary. Hopefully that would be enough to get through a storm of new frustrations and upheaval. Once I allocated the money from the coffers to fix all of the damage, the first real work that I would be responsible for would be a massive port with a system of docks that the ships could use until we could make a good shipyard for them. That was something that I was looking forward to. When that was done, people might actually like that. Maybe even enough for me to be seen as a legitimate ruler over them. That was a real long shot, but it was still a possibility. The Wendalian Armed Forces certainly had enough engineers within them to pull it off. If I had enough time to do it, we could make something really nice.
