Karyn put her head under the bed, feeling with her hand from side to side, cursing loudly.
Finding nothing, she turned and froze in place.
Jon's younger sister, Zoe, stood with her back to the closed door, a mischievous smile on her face.
"Em..." Karyn stammered. "Shouldn't you be in school?"
Zoe just raised an eyebrow. "Shouldn't you?"
Karyn would've slapped herself is she could.
"I... uhm... left something important behind."
Zoe moved her heavy Doc Marten from side to side, toes off, heel squarely planted on the floor. "I know for a fact Jon's at ballet class all afternoon. And that you should be in class too. So, it would be a problem if someone found out why you are here, right?"
Can't believe I am being blackmailed by Zoe, Karyn thought, eyes scanning the floor. No sight of the Stone, but her eyes landed right on the Remote. Zoe noticed this, and she had the better position.
The two darted for it, but Karyn was still on her knees and she was a second too late.
