Biff looked over towards the girls and could see that a few of them were already fawning all over him and trying to get his attention. Biff rolled his eyes.
Biff had been the older sort that got that kind of reaction, and now he was back down at the bottom of the barrel. It had created some reflection on his part. He knew he'd be back on top eventually. His father had told him that although you start in a new place, a new school, a new job from nothing, you have to work hard and get to the top.
His father gave good advice like that. Because he'd lived it. He'd been depressed after he and Sarah broke up, but who had been there to give him a pep talk? For now he was 0. But this fraternity would skyrocket him back up the ladder.
In that regard, he and Heather weren't that different. She was competitive too. He shot a glance over at her. She had admired her new team leader, but had moved on to trying to win the game, no matter what it was.
Alexa looked at them. "Okay, boys. I'm going to take you to the supermarket. You each can only pick two items. You have to buy enough for everyone coming tonight. That's forty people."
Across the room, her leader, who Heather had learned was named Marty, was explaining something similar, except they had to handle decorations and entertainment.
"What's the point of this?" Heather asked him.
"What's your name, pledge?" He demanded.
"Heather?"
"Well... 'Heather', you'd be surprised what you can learn about people by watching them work together, even on the most average task. That's all I'm saying. Don't want to give you a leg up. Now, team sorority...move out."
