He'd applied to his father's old fraternity...Dad had insisted he'd be a natural. It wasn't until that night that he got a message from them, saying that he was invited to pledge, and that it meant he had to do whatever it is the members wanted him to.

There was also an inserted copy of the university's policy on no hazing and no excessive humiliation. Apparently, a few years back there had been a major scandal and any Greek house found doing something dangerous or humiliating would be punished.

He hadn't had any plans...it was hard to go from top of the heap in high school to bottom of it in college. And to be honest, there were people who thought he wouldn't get into college unless it was playing football. Not that they were wrong about that, but he'd been humbled a bit by the change in scenery.

He was on his way toward the Greek housing when he spotted someone he recognized. "Heather!' He called.

She turned, rolling her eyes, and muttering under her breath. "Biff Meadows. I knew you were around here somewhere. Still beating up other kids for their lunch money?"

"I haven't done this since junior high," Biff protested. "Come on...neither of us know that many people. Just trying to be friendly."

"How's Sarah?"

"You know we broke up last year after we had that big fight. I got this weird email from her the other day. It sounded really strange."

Heather looked interested for a moment. "Strange how?"

"Like, it didn't sound like her. I thought maybe it was some sort of prank the way it was written. I called her house, but no one answered. But her parents are always going somewhere." He shrugged. "I sent one of my old high school buds a text. Asked him to go check on her. I'll probably hear from one of them."

Heather paused. Biff seemed a lot more...concerned about someone else's well being than she usually expected. "Well, tell me how it works out if I run into you again. Right now, I have to get to this party. My mom is making me pledge her old sorority."

"My dad set me up with his old one...I just want to get out of the dorms, you know?"

Heather looked at him. "They aren't so bad. My roommate is someone I'd never have made friends with in high school."

"My roommate is a big dork. I mean, he's really annoying, and always wants to talk about his interests."

They both started walking, and after a few minutes, as they grew closer to the greek houses, they realized they were going to the same one.

(Author's note: I thought I'd leave open as a separate branch the idea that something has happened to Sarah post high school and she's trying to get help from Biff. Biff, very shortly, I'd imagine, will have his own problems and Sarah will be the least of them.)
