In Biff's defence, there was not much he could do when the cops turned up at his house. He wasn't stupid and he was as confused as anyone else having been turned into some kind of lion- a 'winged' lion. Funny how easy it was to forget the extra appendages there. So when the police told him to put his 'hands up'- which was in the defence of the police still the standard request, and Biff not actually having 'hands' she went on reaction and raised her wings out.
The sudden unfurling of her massive feathered wings made at least one cop panic and she was shot with a tranquilliser dart. Though this was a relatively minor dose given her new size it was still enough to make Biff dizzy and her massive body crashed onto the ground with a thud.
Biff lost awareness of what was going on next. She heard sounds- assumed it was a paramedic.. they were poking and prodding her- she felt herself lifted she was rather dazed. There was the sound of a woman now and she felt someone stroking her hair. Biff sighed a little at the feeling as her mind retreated back to the days of childhood he hurt himself and his mother gave him a kiss to make it all better. "...Mom..." she mumbled.
"Ah you're awake?" said the voice.
Biff opened her eyes as reality crashed in on her. She was in a hospital. She was on a bed but.. not quite as she expected to be. She was still on all fours, her head buried on some furry arm- that of an animal- "Ah- A-" A lion-
"Shhh..." said the woman next to him. She looked like a doctor. She had black skin and dark hair as well as a rather fetching set of glasses. The woman was looking at Biff with some quiet interest. "Here, you need to drink some water." she offered while taking a few notes and glancing at her watch.
Biff reached out a paw to take the bowl- and knocked it out of the woman's hand. "I- I can't-" she realized. These things.. paws.. they were useless to even hold things!
The dark skinned woman sat next to Biff. "Hey, you just need a bit of time to sort yourself out. It's quite the unique change you've had." she said with a smile. "May I have your name?"
"I'm Biff." The girl said. She looked the bowl over, resting the bottom of it to the top of her paws. She angled it a bit to raise it to her head, finally taking a few sips.
"That's not the name we have for you on file." She said looking at a clipboard.
"It's the name I go by." Biff responded annoyed. "What happened to me I I was turned into a kid for a while. I was told it would only be for a week or so."
"I'm Doctor Aisha. I specialise in animal changed humans such as yourself. I get called when someone of your changes appear in this hospital. You never quite know what a drug intended for humans will to to another species." She then looked at her notes again. "Fortunately, I don't expect any side effects. Though given you are part bird a well, we had to be sure that wasn't going to cause problems."
"Why why am I what am I..."
"A sphinx," nodded Aisha. "Quite unusual actually. I mean there are a few lion changes but a sphinx is rare."
Biff Looked at her paws finishing the drink. Her mouth felt less dry. "How- How long- why-"
The doctor had a tablet computer to hand as she looked at more notes. "The effects tend to happen on children you were infected as a child by the myst, but it was dormant. It turned you into a kid where you then got reinfected. After the initial change wore off, your new change took effect. It's.. actually quite a shocking series of coincidences. I'm sorry but the changes look permanent."
"P-Permanent? No- you're wrong- I can't be- I-"
"Shh you're going to be fine. I have a few contacts you can use, and you should be well enough. There are some pamphlets for you too."
For the next hour or so, Biff started to get stronger.. she looked over the pamphlets with disgust. Stuff like- welcome to girlhood, Grooming your fur and the worst one- where are my genitals? She honestly wanted to kill whoever made these things. It did remind her that her organs were somewhere on her back legs, no longer a simple look down to see them.
There was a knock on the door. "Excuse me can we talk to her?"
Doctor Aisha glanced to Biff. "Biff, the police want to have a talk with you. Think you are up for it?"
Biff gave a nod. Her body ached but she was feeling lucid. "Yeah.."
In the hospital room stepped in another man. He looked to be in his late thirties. "Hello I am Mr Chase, a lawyer for incidents as these. I came to apologise on behalf of the police. Mistakes- severe mistakes were made in this call out. Assumptions were made and.. the result is regrettable. The officer who lost his nerve and used the dart will be disciplined. I am also authorised to offer compensation in return for no further court action..."
"Uh.. how much?" Biff asked cautiously.
"The standard payout for this situation is ten thousand dollars. I have a few forms for you to sign if you are willing to accept this payment."
Biff blinked. Ten thousand dollars? That was.. actually pretty sweet. She certainly didn't want to deal with any court stuff.. "Yeah.. okay..."
The man provided a form. "If you could just sign here..."
Biff blinked as she looked at the pen. She tried to put it between her paws, but the pen kept on slipping off. She struggled to grasp it. However she was very determined. Her signiture looked nothing at all like it should.
"I'll.. take a witness signature as well from the doctor..." the man said taking it from her. "Thank you for accepting the offer, good day. You will get a cheque in the mail." He looked like he wanted to shake Biff's hand, but settled for a wave. "Good.. day..."
Biff looked a bit grim. Something didn't feel right. She had a feeling though and it was hard to wonder what it would mean. "Where.. is my dad?"
the doctors couldn't give any answers.
For Biff the journey back home was.. fairly easy. The hospital had arranged a cab for her. She had to sit sideways though and the door nearly caught her tail. Her wings were pressed closed to her body. The smell of the seat though was really unsettling to her, not to mention that the entire car experience didn't settle her stomach any better. The drugs were now out of her system and she felt a lot better.
She gazed out the window and saw all the 'normal' people. Sure there were a few changed people but it was hard to notice them. A few animal changed that had dealt with their situation growing up for years with their condition. For Biff though this was new.. alien and very unsettling. Mythological changes themselves were a class of their own. 'I'm a girl..' she said in disgust. God- why? Maybe she could deal with being a male lion, but a female one? What was she supposed to say to Sarah how was she even supposed to to be with anyone? Ever?
Once she was home, she needed help getting past the front door. The police had broken the door earlier, but now it was all completely replaced with a new set of keys for her too. Actually using those keys though "Could.. you open the door for me.. please..." Biff asked the cab driver.
"Sure thing lady," he said as he took the keys and opened the door for her. "You er.. want to take the key?" He asked not quite sure how to give it to her. Except to maybe put it in her mouth.
Biff's ears flattened at that. "Just throw them inside!"
The cab driver gasped and did so, as they landed on the hallway. Biff nudged the door closed. She felt.. emotionally exhausted. Where the heck was her father?
Going into the kitchen though she got her answer.. with a note. She leaned up on the table to read it.
'Not dealing with this. Don't bother looking for me.'
Biff growled. "Eh, who needs him.. I've been dealing with my own life anyway just fine."
