The next day a girl in a cheer uniform sat in Mrs. Fines office. Her blonde hair, tan skin, and strikingly dark and well formed eye brows made her almost a photo negative of the Athena from a day before, her cheer uniform was pressed and perfect, her hair styled, her face made up cheerfully. She looked every bit the part of Cheer captain.
Mrs Fine came in to see this girl sitting there patiently and even she was surprised at how eagerly Athena had taken to her suggestion. This wasn't slow, she didn't need convincing, she had gone from Goth to cheerleader in an evening. It almost seemed wrong.
"Hello Mrs Fine." Athena greeted her with a smile as she stood with perfect posture and balance.
Mrs. Fine decided to reward Athena for her willing acceptance of her role.
"Athena? I can't believe it's you, what a darling beauty you're becoming." Mrs. Fine faned shock and awe, words which Athena had already felt this morning when she awoke to see her new face and hair in the mirror. She would have to go to the salon to get her hair done right, and the tanning bed to even out her skin tone, but she woke with confidence and pose, and that feeling had only been growing in her all day.
"I know, one might suspect you had a hand in it, but whatever the case I just wanted you to know, I accept your proposal." Athena responded, she would take the compliment but she wouldn't give anything back.
"I just had a feeling an ambitious and talented girl like you would fit the role. Happy to be right." This was directed at herself more than Athena.
"But." Athena interrupted like a scratched record.
"I don't just want to be a bitchy stuck up girl, leading other bitchy stuck up girls while strangers lust over us."
"I never thought you would be..."
"And I don't want these to be the best days of our lives either, cheerleading is what three years? Maybe more in college? I want more."
Mrs. Fine was shocked, she had suggested ambition and beauty and leadership, but this was tenfold what she expected from Athena.
"And what more could a girl want? You are a Beautiful, confident, ambitious, leader."
Each word felt good to hear, and Athena felt a need in her to be all those things, it was so important, but it was also those things that made her say.
" I want to do what you are doing. I don't know how you are convincing people of everything you have been but I want that. And I want to pick the rest of my team, and I want to make sure that they all the best versions of themselves."
'An apprentice?' Mrs. Fine considered.
"Its risky. You'd have to do exactly as I say." Mrs. Fine cautioned.
Athena didn't allow for a no.
