After a normal day of school, Jon was waiting for Karyn at the school gates. He had told Karyn about his wish and while she was shocked at first, she became relieved to hear that nothing had happened so far. They agreed to keep an eye out during school but had spotted nothing. If Jon had really thought about it, he would have noticed that he had swapped roles with his parents in particular his mother as had everyone else in town. But of course Jon hadn't noticed and so he thought everything was normal. Once Jon had met up with Karyn they started to head home. "Do you need any help looking after your parents tonight?" Jon asked Karyn "Zoe and I are going out tonight but I'm sure Mikey wouldn't mind" He continued. "Oh thanks Jon." Karyn said "dad's out tonight with his friends from work so it'll be just mom. If Mikey doesn't mind of course" Karyn finished. "Oh not to worry," Jon gushed "I'm sure Mikey would love to help." Karyn smiled "Thanks again. This would be a great help. I've got a date tonight and I thought I might have to cancel." "Oh?" Jon said surprised "who with?" he asked. "Just a guy from school" Karyn said "You don't know him." "Oh ok" Jon replied still surprised. "Yeah I'm taking him out for a movie and then dinner." Karyn said. "That sounds nice. Zoe's taking me to a fancy restaurant." Jon replied. They had reached Karyn's house. "Sounds romantic" Karyn said "Well I best head on in. See if my mom has done her chores yet. Probably not" Karyn sighed and said goodbye before entering her house. As Jon continued onto his home Jon felt sorry for Karyn. It must be hard being the only child, at least her dad helped out.
A few moments later, Jon entered his house to find his mother in the living room playing on one of her games. She had a headset on "Hi sweetie" Jon said greeting his mother. "Hey Jon" Linda replied not looking up from the screen. "Did you do your chores?" Jon asked. "Hang on guys. My son's home" Linda removed her headset and looked at Jon "Of course I did Jon" Jon smiled "thank you honey. I really appreciate your help. Where's Mikey?" "In the kitchen" His mother replied matter of factly before putting her headset back on. Jon took that as a sign that the conversation was over and headed into the kitchen. Mikey was sitting at the table with his legs crossed and reading a fashion magazine while drinking a cup of coffee. "Hi Mikey" Jon greeted his brother as he poured himself a cup. "Oh hi Jon" Mikey replied looking up "How was school?" "It was good thanks" Jon replied. "I need to ask you something" He said sitting down and crossing his legs just like Mikey. "Sure" Mikey replied. "Karyn's got a date tonight and I said that you would look after her mother. I hope you don't mind?" Jon asked. Mikey's face brightened up as he smiled "No problem. I'd be happy to help. What about her dad?" he asked. "Apparently he's hanging out with some work friends."
At that point Linda had come into the kitchen to pour herself a glass of coke. "Hey Jon" she said "Yes honey?" "If Karyn " That's Miss Black to you mom" Jon interrupted. "Fine" Linda replied rolling her eyes "If Miss Black is out tonight then perhaps Stacy can come round here." Linda suggested. "That's actually not a bad idea mom." Mikey said "That way I can look after all three you in one place. I'll ring Karyn and see if she's ok with it." "I'm going to get ready for our date." Jon said as he got up and left for his bedroom. Meanwhile Linda went back to her game looking forward to having Stacy around. Maybe they could ask Mikey if they could have pizza tonight
