You've mastered all of the material so there's no need for you to do the assignment? If that's true, then you should be the teacher, and I'll just sit here and learn from you.
After Steve collected all of the homework and headed back towards the front of the classroom, Jon leaned over towards the "new" girl and tried to get her attention. "Psst," he whispered.
The girl turned towards him. "Yeah?"
Seeing her face, rather than the back of her head, Jon realized that he knew this girl, even though he had never seen her before. Maybe he saw her in the hall in passing, but just forgot? "Are you new to this class?"
"Me? Very funny, Jon," she said, rolling her eyes.
"Well, who are you?"
"Jacqueline," she said. "Be quiet," she whispered. "You don't want to get us in trouble. Farber is already gunning for me because I forgot my homework."
Jon's mouth fell open. That's why she looked familiar. That was Mrs. Watson's first name. That meant she was Mrs. Watson! Only now she was a teenager! And a fairly attractive one at that.
The former Mrs. Watson went back to doing the assignment on the board. She seemed to be struggling with it.
