The teacher sighed, then asked for Jon's homework assignment. Jon handed it to him.
The girl at what had been Steve's desk looked a bit confused herself. The teacher looked a lot like Steve Farber, she supposed. Or it could not be. What someone looked at 16 and what they'd looked like 20 years later was different enough. She reached into the bag at her feet and found a makeup mirror, and got a quick look at herself.
Suddenly, looking panicked but trying not to be, she raised her hand and rose to her feet. "I feel sick," she said. "Can I go to the nurse please?"
The teacher looked at her, and seemed to decide she looked ill. In fact, the moment she'd said it, Jacqueline suddenly felt even worse.
"I'll help her," a male voice said. Suddenly, Jon Madison was moving toward her.
"Mr. Madison, you will escort her straight to the nurse and come straight back," Teacher Steve said.
"Yes, sir," he said. He moved to help her, and picked up her bag...or rather the bag that was at her feet.
He helped her into the hallway. "Are you all right?" He asked her.
"Well...I think I must be coming down with something." She hadn't before. But the moment she'd said it...
Neither of them realized they were both in the same position...namely, trying not to let the other know that the two of them were the only two who knew something was off.
"Well, umm..." Jon said. "I guess we should get to the nurse's office."
"Thank you, M...Jon," she said, hastily correcting herself.
"We'd better hurry up. He told me to come right back."
"Why did you jump up and help me? It's not like you're my boyfriend or anything," she said. I hope he isn't. I'm old enough to be his mother. I...was old enough...This can't be happening
"No...we barely know each other," Jon said. "Just...you looked like you were going to throw up..."
Jacqueline wondered how she could get information out of him about who he thought she was without her thinking she was nuts. Clearly, she was the only one who knew things were different...however that was possible.
