It was his mom more than his dad who pushed Fred to do his homework, so it was probably no big surprise when he said "I wish I didn't have a mom. Maybe then I wouldn't have to do this stupid homework."
Unlike the stone, there was no obvious indication that his wish had been granted (like a flash of light) since there was nothing like a stone present. But reality did change, nevertheless.
