Emily and Ashley continued their conversation, eventually veering into other topics, mostly gossip about other kids from school. Eventually it came time to rap up the phone call.

"Well, hey, I think my laundry's done," said Emily. "I'll see you in class tomorrow."

She hung up the phone and went down the stairs at the end of the hall to the basement laundry room. As she unloaded her clothes into the laundry basket, she thought, "That's odd, I could've swore I put my peach sundress in this load..." She shook her head, reminding herself to check the hamper, it must still be in there. She finished unloading from the dryer with a pair of pink socks, which she noticed, with a frown, that the wash had apparently somehow ruined by turning them a dull red.

She took the laundry basket back to her room, and put her clothes away. No sign of her favourite sundress anywhere, and oddly enough, a few other items seemed to be missing, notably some of her jewelry and make-up. It was getting late though, she needed to get some sleep soon, she'd search the house and question her family tomorrow... She got on her computer for one last email check of the day before going to bed.

She recalled her conversation earlier with Ashley, about that article about men's and women's fashions, and laughed a little as she pictured what the world would be like if things hadn't changed... She decided to research a little further on the differences of clothing amongst the genders throughout history. She started casually scrolling through a website when a certain paragraph struck her eye... "In the mid-1600's, it was decided that men should wear dresses or skirts and women should wear trousers or pants, due to reasons of anatomy. Although men won the right to wear pants in the mid-twentieth century, most men still prefer to wear dresses. Men's clothing, then as now, was also much more decorative and flashy, whereas women preferred more practical, no-frills attire.."

Emily was confused. Then she laughed, this was obviously a joke website. It was pretty funny when she thought about it. She yawned and turned off her computer, her thoughts moving to other things, mainly sleep. She went to bed not knowing that things were changing all around her, and would continue to change the next day...
