I am? Nadine thought. It couldn't be. She had a lot of respect for the police, and authority in general. But ... for some reason, it felt like she should have been rebellious. She shook her head. What was happening to her? The more time that passed, the more this situation felt normal to her. But it wasn't normal. Not at all.
She just wanted to go home. "I...get a phone call," she suddenly shouted. "Don't I get one?" She asked.
The cop shrugged. "Fine." One of the other cops took her to a small room with a phone. He entered a code into it. "It will allow one local call. Don't waste it."
He left her alone. Nadine paused, and dialed her house. She wondered what she would tell them.
