The notebook was't actually a story. It was, in fact, someone's journal. The story and thoughts expressed by the writer weren't fiction...Zoe was absorbing someone's real life and feelings...but, since the owner hadn't even realized that she'd dropped her journal...they were blissfully unaware of the situation.
