Sitha froze with indecision as he debated what to do next, but the ghost did not. It lunged at him and he felt an icy chill as it entered his body. He looked around but he couldn’t see where it had gone, he hoped it had left him but he wasn’t going to stick around to find out what it was up to. The warrior had great experience in fighting the living but none in fighting the dead, and he didn’t want to gain any when he was at such a disadvantage.

Pain from his wounds finally called on him to stop and fall into another deep slumber on the soft, moist earth. He knew he should have stopped sooner but he wanted to be as far away from there as possible. The sleep was dreamless, and good for his recovery as the pain from his wound no longer bothered him.

Taking a look at the wound he found it had healed and was no longer tender to the touch, but it had no scales over. The flesh looked like the skin of a human, and his size had diminished, he was certain the ghost had done something to him. Tightening his belt he continued on his journey, but he wasn’t looking forward to what likely had to be done. Magic was involved and magic was the likely solution to his problems.

His first thought was to go to the shamans of his tribe but they were far from here and he strongly suspected the changes the ghost was doing to him were not finished with him. The sooner Sitha the easier the solution was likely to be, but the magic of the humans and other creatures were strange to him. One of the holy people might have the answer because they were good with curses and the undead but they had many rules and strange customs. They often mocked him for his “primitive” ways that were far more in touch with nature and the land. The humans wanted to call on divine beings that were distant and alien to life on earth. They didn’t experience the pains and sufferings of mortals, so how could they be trusted with the care of mortals. The last option was the one that frightened him the most.

Wizards and their ilk were terrifying to him because they dealt in forces that were far beyond their control and understanding yet these beings acted like they were the masters of it. Many would likely have the intelligence and knowledge to help him but there was a danger that they would treat him as an experiment for their own selfish power and gain. There was also the chance they would fail him as they over reached their skills and abilities, few wizards ever doubted their chances of success and their failures often had terrible consequences.

It was a scary choice to have to make when all he really wanted to do was go and collect his reward for his victory, but this was a problem he needed to take care of first.
